HOW TO LIVE A FAT AND FIT LIFE!

How to live a fat and fit life, is a factual collection of information gathered to endorse a proactive lifestyle, while creating practical goals. This is as much a plan of action, as it is me, sharing the way I live.

There is SO MUCH health information available to us, it is sometimes hard to find the truth.The truth is not always what we WANT TO HEAR. It is always what we NEED TO KNOW! Once you have the truth, you then balance risks and benefits to make informed decisions.

My goal is for Live Fat and Fit to create a trusted, reliable place to learn the facts and hear the truth.

THE HARD TO HEAR TRUTH ABOUT FAT!

Being fat puts me at higher risk for illnesses. Some of the obvious issues are diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease stroke and osteoarthritis. I am not going to focus on list of ailments that obesity can cause, I want this to be a positive look, at a positive lifestyle choice, but I have to be HONEST with myself first and ACKNOWLEDGE the risks.

Some cancers have associated higher risk of incidence among people who carry extra weight. The increased rate with obesity varies by the type of cancer. In esophageal cancer it is twice as prevalent, where as thyroid cancer only carries a 10% increased risk. GENETIC FACTS

Obesitymedicine.org states “Recent studies suggest that genetics contribute to 40-70% of obesity with the discovery of more than 50 genes that are strongly associated with obesity. While changes in the environment have significantly increased obesity rates over the last 20 years, the presence or absence of genetic factors protect us from or predispose us to obesity.” This is SIGNIFICANT to me!

The important word here is PREDISPOSE. This means that I do not HAVE TO BE obese, but I will be likely to experience increased hunger, decreased satiety (feeling of fullness) and an increased tendency to store fat. The article makes the point that a “consistent treatment plan” will prevent and treat obesity.

WHAO!!! A CONSISTENT TREATMENT PLAN is not the way I want to live! The benefits and risks need to be assessed individually, as in the medical world, obesity is considered a disease. As perceptions differ, we will come to different conclusions. A PROACTIVE LIFESTYLE

The How To Of Proactive Health really highlights what being proactive about your health is all about. It is useful to anyone who is on a health-related journey! GETTING AHEAD OF our health is what being proactive means. It does not mean STRICT compliance to A CONSISTENT TREATMENT PLAN, which in my view makes us all sound like we are consistently SICK! Which we are not!!

MOVEMENT is a big part of a proactive lifestyle. To me, it is the ONE THING WE ALL MUST DO. We must move our bodies and we must move them regularly. Consistent movement helps every body with practically fit muscle strength and flexibility. It helps us to maintain balance and mobility. This is important to everyone as we age, but I can tell you personally how important mobility is to an elderly person who is heavy. My mother was a very large lady. Her immobility in her latter years was a cause of pain and struggle, not only for her, but for all of us taking care of her.

PROACTIVE health includes a balanced eating plan, which allows for all foods in moderation. I have chosen a path towards plant-based foods for the last four years. Although this can lead to weight loss, it has not done so for me. This, I believe, is because I do not enjoy food preparation and am still consuming too much prepared foods. The healthiest eating plan would REDUCE packaged and prepared foods, include a lot of WHOLE foods, fruits and veggies and the TREATS we love. This is where moderation becomes part of the lifestyle. It is my belief that EXTREME restrictions are not healthy for anyone and rarely necessary.

THE PLAN OF ACTION

PRACTICALITY WINS! Often we let feelings get in the way of truth! The truth is we need to be practically fit and we need to stay moving. This has nothing to do with FAT SHAMING or TELLING anyone what to do. You can choose otherwise and not be practically fit if you prefer, that is your right. However, not choosing a plan of action to move towards practical goals and maintain practical fitness, will make mobility harder for you later in life. Find ways to strengthen your body every day. Stretch often through out the day, workout, walk, take up yoga practice. Develop practical fitness habits. Be moderate. Find motivation.

Something that is practical, is CAPABLE of being done or capable of being PUT INTO PRACTICE. The plan of action is proactive, practical, health choices that benefit ANY BODY!

MOM

While what I do with my body is my choice, I do believe that I have an obligation to CONSIDER how my choices effect the people around me, the ones I love. My mother’s choices influenced me and they affected me. I know I did not like some of her choices, because they led to losing her sooner than need be and they created concern and worry for those of us around her. The way I see it now, I judged her too much! Being pro-fat, pro plus-size life, pro-thin, pro thin-life, pro-fit and pro-movement, means being pro-CHOICE. You get to do and be and choose whatever you like AND others need to honour your choices, acknowledge them, support them and then mind their business. That is not always easy, when you love someone!

CHOICES

There is enough information about proactive, practical wellness that feel like I could write a book (think about this a lot), A PROACTIVE, PRACTICAL LOOK AT HEALTH AND WELLNESS. This article, essay or post, will never say enough or give enough information to help you choose wisely.

My choice is not to focus on WEIGHT. I choose to eat with MODERATION. My choice is to make movement a part of my day, as often as possible. I do some form of exercise, as many days of the week as feels good to me. I take all opportunities to stretch, strengthen and keep my body moving in practical ways, each and every day. My Movement Made Easy Videos can help you with this. Motivation is very different for all of us and is often the lacking ingredient in the recipe to wellness. That is okay. We are not going to be highly motivated 365 days of the year. We do the best we can each day and that will vary.

SHOULDs are a big problem in our world. Shoulds have no place in setting goals and plans of action. Wants and needs do. Self-confidence, self-esteem and self-respect become a murky, in a world that does not support us. YOU CHOOSE what works for you and you set your own goals.
