PROGRESS NOT POUNDS!
I want to focus on progress and not pounds. I want to be done with the scale forever. However, I am afraid that promising that could be a lie. I was taught to watch the scale as a girl, a teen and a woman and it is a very hard habit to break. I know that my Primary Care Provider will put me on a scale during visits moving forward.
I am interested in these three progress markers, as I make changed in my life. I would like to share them with you.
1. I am taking better care of me.
2. I feel better about me.
3. I am maintaining flexibility and mobility and I am able to live an active life doing the things that are necessary daily.
There is a long list of things that can be done to help with these progress markers and you will indeed see this list unfold at livefatandfit.com over time. I am going to share with you the things I am currently undertaking, as these would be helpful to most of you as well.
PROGRESS NOT POUNDS CURRENT UNDERTAKINGS
First and foremost, I am taking care of my mood and emotional well-being. At the moment, this is quite exhausting in and of itself. I have began EMDR treatment to help with PTSD and I am on medication. Likely, I will be for the rest of my days. I am grounding myself with music daily, I am dancing often and I am taking an Emotional Rescue course online.
Next, I am moving my body. I have been walking a few times this fall, but I find as COVID increases, it becomes harder to get myself out the door . Instead, I have increased my yoga practice and this helps me with all three of the progress markers listed above.
Also, I am changing my eating habits. This is the toughest thing for me to do. I was taught poor eating habits from birth. I have never seen food only as fuel in my life and I do not even think I want to. Food is so much more. Food is part of socialization. Socialization is a good thing in my life. My intention here is to change some specific habits around food. Currently, I have stopped eating after 8 p.m. I am a late night person and a late sleeper. By stopping eating after 8 p.m. I am giving myself about a 14 hour period each day where I do not eat. With the end of late night eating, I am less bloated already!!
The last thing I will share with you is that I journal. Some days, this ends up as a post on this blog. I cannot over emphasis the lift that I get from writing. I keep a journal and have for years. There are volumes and volumes waiting to be burned some day when I am ready to release the past.
IN THE END …
Progress not pounds means I check in with myself at the end of the day by reviewing these three progress markers. When I am happy with the job I have done with them on any given day, I know I am moving myself in the direction of better health and well-being. I also know I am doing so without being slave to a SCALE!!
