MY SELF-CARE HABIT CHALLENGE!
Me and my self-care habit are lying down a challenge here! A self-care habit challenge. Tell me, when you are off on Sunday do you get dressed? Do you ever give yourself a total day of doing nothing? Can you have morning coffee/tea alone?
Not everyone has the weekend off and where you live on the globe right now likely determines how many days at home you are getting. Not everyone can take a day and do nothing and everywhere healthcare workers and other essential service workers are over worked. Also, some people are without work due to COVID-19.
In Ontario where I live the COVID-19 numbers are rising and some people are working and some people are home. Urban areas are on lock down like in Toronto and rural areas are not.
I was thinking about this today in regard to yesterday’s post … SELF-CARE TO BE THE BEST YOU and I decided a follow-up was necessary. I want to show you the range of self-care actions that can be helpful and I want to challenge you to start a self-care habit!!
ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING LARGE OR SPEND MONEY in order to take better care of themselves. This weekend I took a drive around town to see the Illumination Festival. I did not have to get out of my car and I took pictures. I did buy myself a peppermint tea to take along, but really no money was necessary. The time out was really beneficial.
Something as simple as a day at home in your jammies can bring comfort. As well, people tend to be creatures of habit and creating habits of self-care can go a long way to helping us feel better not only about ourselves, but about life in general.
Today, I am going to give you two websites to help you in this regard. One of my favourite places to go for help with calm and comfort is tinybuddha.com. They have a great list of 45 self-care ideas that will help the mind, body and soul. My personal favourite from this list is to simply goof around a bit.
PureWow.com has a list too. It includes 50 things that are totally free. These are ways to practice self-care AT HOME! The at home is what caught my attention here. From this list my favourite was one-woman karaoke. Please understand, I am no vocalist, but throwing on music and singing and dancing is something I do often! My list of karaoke songs includes How Great Thou Art, You Raise Me Up, Make Me A Channel of Your Peace and Live with Jesus. Not only do I sing loud and proud when no one is home, but for me these songs connect me to the universe and this may be THE SINGLE BEST self-care habit I have formed to help me with PTSD/anxiety and such.
MY SELF-CARE CHALLENGE
My self-care habit challenge for you is to find you ONE thing from ONE of these lists and start forming a habit to include that thing in your life with regularity. Do not get dressed on Sunday OR find a great site online and take a look at some animal pics OR sing some songs loud and proud … whatever appeals to you. It matters not what you do, it matters that you do it. IT IS IN THE DOING THAT WE WILL HELP OURSELVES!!
I would enjoy hearing from you. You can email firstname.lastname@example.org
