SELF-CARE TO BE THE BEST YOU!
Self-care is not selfish it is self-preservation!!! We have to change any ideas out there that self-care is selfish! It is necessary, helpful to the mind and body and really in my opinion should be taught to us as children along with so many other ways we can use to help our mental health!!
Today in order to take care of me I did 2 things.
First, I tried out a recipe for sugarless banana bread. The recipe was from a site called Nourished By Caroline and it turned out fabulously! This was in order to help with my goal of no added sugar between now and Christmas. I did this as part of physical self-care, but it will also help emotionally when I know I am doing things to take care of me.
The next thing I did today I do almost every day. I had a long and soothing bath. Showers are not my thing. Washing my hair is also something I prefer not to do myself and I long for post-COVID days when I can go to get my hair washed elsewhere. The bath is not just a cleansing of my body, it supports my soul process. Sometimes I simply lay in the water and relax and other times I surf or my phone, or play a game on Facebook. Either way, this is a relaxing time for me and if I go into the bath in a flustered or anxious mood, I often come out feeling better.
So here is my opinion. This is not based on any research or reading. It is not the opinion of another website or any other professionals, this is my opinion …
If we were taught self-care at a young age we would be better adults later in life. We cannot nourish, teach, work, support and cherish others unless we are nourishing, teaching, working on, supporting and cherishing our self! In order to be at our best, we must take care of ourselves like we matter! I am directing this to everyone, Mom, Dad, teacher, student, all individuals. Find things that you like to do for you. These things do not have to involve money. They do not have to involve anything. They have to be what SUITS YOU AND ONLY YOU!
Self-care can be calming, physical, emotional, social or spiritual. You and only you can know what are the best things to do for you, but there are a few suggestions in posts in the Toolbox at livefatandfit.com.
I hope you spend some time thinking about self-care and what it is you can do for you. Write a self-care bucket list and work on everything on your list, whether they are daily things or occasional things. Self-care leads to self-love and self-esteem. WE ARE ALL IN NEED OF MORE OF BOTH.
I would enjoy hearing from you. You can email email@example.com
