Overlooked and understated by many, are the amazing increasing endorphin benefits!! WE DO NOT HEAR ENOUGH ABOUT ENDORPHINS. We are learning more about what endorphins do and we know that increasing your endorphin levels is something you can do, ON YOUR OWN!
Oxford languages definitions endorphins as “any of a group of hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system and having a number of physiological functions. They are peptides which activate the body’s opiate receptors, causing an analgesic effect.” They are analgesics, activated by a number of things. This means they REDUCE pain! They have become known as the “feel good” chemical, that our body PRODUCES ON DEMAND!
Endorphins activate your opioid receptors in your brain, causing feelings of happiness and general well being. There are studies showing that exercise alone, because it raises endorphin levels, can improve depression. WebMD has a great article, Exercise and Depression, that explains this well.
There are about 20 different endorphins, their names and categories are not important to most of us, what is important is how they make us feel.
